Utah 2011

After an early departure from Portland my teammates and I arrived in Utah for a month-long high altitude training camp. We will be staying in Deer Valley Utah, and training in the surrounding mountains, and the 2002 Olympic Venue in Soldier Hollow. So far we have been experiencing typically awesome western weather complete with sunny bluebird days with cool mornings and full on summer afternoons. With the US Biathlon Team, US Ski Team and many on the country’s elite clubs all in town it should be a great camp. Pictures are from our hike this morning. Fall

The cold nights and crisp air of fall have arrived in the St. John Valley and with it more intense and focused training. Rollerski combos at high intensity, strength, race shooting, and distance workouts are the flavor of fall training. We have just finished up another round of physical testing which involved a 3000m run on the track, a strength test, and an uphill running race. My 3000m and strength tests results were virtually identical to my results from June, however I set a personal best by a wide margin in the uphill running race and took the win overall. In addition to training my teammate Danni Anderson spend the day in Eagle Lake, Maine getting the word out about Maine Winter Sports Center during the town Centennial Celebration. We took part in the morning parade and set up a beanbag biathlon game, and double pole machine for community members to try. The event was a success with almost every kid under 15 going home with a MWSC sticker or poster. I’m looking forward to working in Eagle Lake more as the year goes on. Up next for me will be Utah camp. Everyone is looking forward to spending some time out west.
